Today's Pattern Story (and sale): Butterick 5832

Yes, it is a nice day. Isn’t it?

Yes, I am glad that I came out to the club with you and “the boys”.

Yes, it’s good to get out of the office and do a little informal business.

Yes, I’m a good sport not to be offended that they wouldn’t let me golf. Or wear trousers. Or drive the golf cart. Or sit in the dining room. Or park my car in the parking lot. Or come in the front door.

Yes, Danny’s a riot. Absolutely a scream. That joke about women lawyers? That must always have them in stitches at his firm.

Yes, I do make a great cup of coffee. That *is* one of my many excellent work qualifications, in addition to being editor of the law review and my Supreme Court clerkship.

Yes, I am imagining you all dying of massive coronaries as you grunt and smoke and drink and make unnecessary comments about my ass. (Yes, I can hear you.)

No, I didn’t say that last thing out loud.

is from MOMSPatterns … and Jen is having a sale! She has more than , and they’re 75% off THAT with the code ‘bigsale’ until April 5. And she’s throwing in 15% off all OTHER patterns for the month of April  just for Dress A  Day readers (no foolin’!). Use the code ‘sewingbasket’.

End of Year Sales

Back before I did much sewing, I used to really enjoy the post-Christmas, pre-New Year’s end-of-year sales. I would take myself and my Christmas present money to the mall, hoping against hope that there would be something that I actually liked that I could spend said money upon (remember, this was before I did much sewing, when I was at the mercy of Belk’s and 5-7-9 — does 5-7-9 still exist? Oh).

Now that I sew more and shop less (at least, I shop less for clothes that are already made …) I look more for end-of-year sales from pattern sellers and vintage sellers. 🙂 Here’s a list of all the sales I know about, feel free to add more in the comments!

is offering a 10% rebate, through January 11th. (I have my eye on this .)

Penny at is offering a 30% discount from December 31 through January 4. You might like .

Lisa at is offering 20% off with the coupon code NEWYEAR2013, starting December 30 and ending January 5th. If you’re a smaller size and want a simple (yet gorgeous) pattern, check out:

(Ignore the belligerent woman in the center. She doesn’t fight fair.)

Holly at is offering sale prices across the site … check out , yum!

The is having a 25% off sale until January 2 — use coupon code “blizzard.” (Lisa was promised one by untrustworthy weathermen and was quite disappointed to get just a run-of-the-mill snowstorm, instead.) And check out this — quite unsuitable for any kind of snow, but with a really unusual front closure!

Sheila at is offering 15% off, through January 1, using the coupon code CHRISTMAS. Might be a good time to pick up …

Tina at is offering 25% (excluding shipping) through January 15th … use coupon code “FirstSale!” because it’s Tina’s first sale. 🙂 (Maybe your New Year’s resolution is to sew more slinky Sixties wear? If so, .)

Today's Pattern Story and Sale

Advance 2754

Callista: This year, Marjorie, is going to see the fulfillment of all of our plans! We’re going to land the Thompson account! Captain Montrose will propose! And little Timmy — darling little Timmy — will finally learn to spell “accommodate”!

Marjorie: If you say so, C. Is there any cake left?

I don’t know about you, but I always start to get that new-year itch the day after Christmas. I don’t want to wait until January 1 to start thinking about next year … which is annoying to everyone else who is still picking through the Christmas cookies.

[ is on sale right now at MOMSPatterns — 25% off until midnight CST  on the 27th with code “Crimbo” (Jen married a Brit).]

Do you have resolutions, sewing or otherwise, for 2013? I’m working on a post about mine right now. Also, what do you want me to post more of in 2013 (other than just posting more)?

Today's Pattern Story and Sale: Vogue 7787

Gray dress: Don't let anybody tell you that a chair with disappearing legs is better to lean against than a disappearing ledge. It's just not true, despite what Miss Cherry Jumper over there seems to think.

Miss Cherry Jumper: I wish I had worn my glasses after all. I can't read that sign … does it say "don't lean on the disappearing chair?" I hope not, those disappearing ledges are so dangerous.

This pattern is on sale now through Sunday (as are all the patterns at — use the code GONECAMPING for 15% off). Unfortunately, this one isn't in my size, anyone have one in a bust 34?

(And oh, is anyone else using Pinterest? I'm starting to like it more and more. I'm there.)

Happy Anniversary to Holly!

Holly at is celebrating her third anniversary this week, and everything's on sale. (I love this dress, which looks Libertyish and practically demands to be taken to a summer picnic.)

There's so much gorgeous on Holly's site right now that it's going to be hard to choose. I recommend you get there early before the canapés (and ) are gone.

[Sorry to be such an absentee blogger these last few weeks … I promise to catch up this week! Highlights will include some NEW SEWING; a trip to LONDON; and links a-plenty. Also possibly a new rant.]
