Large Sizes, and a random BSG digression

Anna at reminded me I wanted to link to her Etsy shop, which sells only larger-sized vintage patterns. Great idea, what? (Talk about the … )

Anyway, I must be watching WAY too much (yes, I know I'm late to the party — I'm in season 2.0 right now — but hey, there was plenty of onion dip left when I got here), because the first thing I thought of when I saw this lovely 1970s Sybil Connelly dress was "CYLON!!!"

You see it too, right? She could be walking the streets of poor nuked deserted Caprica, having only to crook a finger to call down those clanking centurions to provide firepower. It must be the stark white of the dress against the urban scene, coupled with her ectomorphic and etiolated frame that does it … If only she weren't holding that bag. Cylons never have to reapply their lipstick.

  1. Sorry Erin, This looks like a cute wrap dress from the 70s rather than from a SciFi movie. If the model had a belly it would be well hidden under the gathers or if she were preggers this dress could be worn easily for months.

  2. Erin… welcome to BSG! We have no cable at our house, so we have to wait for the seasons on Net Flix. It is worth it. Number Six proves machines have style!

  3. Not up on my battleship Galactica trivia but I can guess what you mean. The model does have an anxious “I’m exploring a deserted city” look on her face.Back to the dress in question. One of the benefits of putting on weight has been putting it on in my bosom too, so I would not want to wrap up one of the only decent features of being plus sized in a swath of excess material. Personally. But then, I am not a Cylon. So, what would I know?

  5. I so love this dress. I would make the longer one – in that same fabric if I could find it – in a flash. And I only noticed later that the fabric had butterflies on it.

  6. I love this dress. The longer version reminds me of a dress (actually, more than one) that Lizzie (Keira Knightley) wears in the newest version of Pride and Prejudice.
